Want to Join Forces with GRRI-NJ to Help Goldens in Need?
Here's How!

At GRRI-NJ, there is never a job shortage -- even if you have only a small amount of time to devote each month.

GRRI-NJ also prides itself on providing excellent support for its volunteers. This includes giving each volunteer a detailed GRRI-NJ volunteer manual and assigning mentors to new volunteers in intake, fostering, evaluations, interviewing, etc.

Following are some examples of the kind of things you can do to help:

Fund-raising: Create and/or participate in opportunities to raise the funds that pay GRRI-NJ's bills (things like insurance and vet bills, to name just a few). These activities include raffles, product sales, garage sales, auctions, membership drives, dog events, and anything else we can think of to raise money for rescue. Fund-raising is ongoing, but volunteer participation varies from long range planning to single day staffing.

Transportation: Transport Goldens from surrendering owners, shelters, vet offices, etc., to the appropriate GRRI-NJ destination, such as a GRRI-NJ foster home. GRRI-NJ always needs lots of transportation volunteers on hand because we never know when we'll need them -- or where they will need to go.

Interviewing: Work in conjunction with other GRRI-NJ volunteers to interview prospective adoptive families to see if they will provide the right environment for our Goldens.

Home Visits:  Visit and interview prospective foster and adoptive families to see if they will provide the right environment for our Goldens.

Events: Source, organize and staff GRRI-NJ booths at community and dog events, where GRRI-NJ volunteers distribute rescue literature, answer questions about Goldens and GRRI-NJ, and promote adoption and responsible pet ownership.

Fostering: Open your heart and home to a Golden in need and provide daily care and love until a suitable adoptive family is found. This is one of the MOST important areas of rescue, and we always need lots of foster homes. Find out more about GRRI-NJ's fostering program.

Intake: Retrieve messages on a daily basis off our hotline and respond as needed. Hotline rotations last one week, and each hotline volunteer typically does one rotation every 6 to 8 weeks. Intake is a very hands on part of rescue and also the most consistently time intensive. Each Golden entering the GRRI-NJ program has an intake volunteer assigned who tracks and supervises what happens to the Golden from evaluation through foster or adoptive placement. This is a job that requires steadfastness, diplomacy, and hands on knowledge about Goldens.

Evaluations: Evaluations are another very hands on and critical part of rescue. In conjunction with intake volunteers, evaluators personally evaluate the temperament and behavior of each Golden being considered for the GRRI-NJ program. Experience and knowledge of dog behavior is essential for this job.
