He was  only 15-months old and had already  been in three homes. His first home threw him out when he was only 9-months old. He was un-trained, not neutered, and a bundle of energy. He spent his days chewing on empty soda bottles and rawhide bones. He lived in the basement or the backyard because his family couldn't stand to have him around. He was surrendered to Golden Re-Triever Rescue.

His second home neutered him and promised to take him for obedience training. They had another dog for him to play with, as well as a young child. But they thought they could do the training themselves and did not seek the help of a professional training school. As a result, he got more and more out of control. Four months after he was adopted, he was returned to Golden Re-Triever Rescue.

It was obvious that this dog, now 14-months old, was out of control. So off he went to doggy bootcamp, where he spent 5 weeks learning how to be a gentleman. We then needed to find the perfect family for him. One that would continue his training and not let him get the upper hand, one with kids, since he really does adore children. He came out of boot camp and spent a week with one of our volunteers and her family so he could acclimate to being in a family environment. Then it was time to find his new family.

And we found that family. His mom was a volunteer with several  Golden Retriever rescue groups, so she understands that all rescue dogs come with baggage. They are experienced golden owners, willing to follow through with training….and they had a 4 year old son!

Scotty went to his new forever home the day before Easter Sunday. His new "mom" reported that he was the best dog in the whole world,  so gentle and well-trained that her child can walk him. Yay for Scotty!!
