Rusty and Lacey, a senior pair, provided unconditional love and comfort to their original owner, who was in the last stages of terminal cancer.  When  she died, medical bills forced her husband to sell their home and move to a place where he couldn't take the dogs.

When the time came to move Rusty and Lacey to their foster home, our volunteer found two very shy dogs who didn't want to leave the only home they had ever known.  It was difficult to get them into the car as everyone was so emotional.  Although both Goldens needed grooming and to lose quite a few extra pounds, it was obvious that they had been well loved and well fed.

Their foster family put the pair on a strict diet and worked hard to get their dry and brittle coats back into shape.  Rusty was very timid but soon bonded with his foster mom and followed her everywhere.  These gentle seniors had learned to love and trust again.

When the day came for their forever mom to come and pick them up, they jumped willingly into the car for the long ride home.  However, several months later, their new mom was forced to sell her house and Rusty and Lacey were up for adoption again.

Once more, these dogs found a new forever home.  This time in Colts Neck with an incredible new mom and dad.  They got to go to work with their mom every day to a place called Cosmopawlitan, a pet boutique.  Rusty had surgery to remove cysts from his chest, face and ear.  He also  lost about 25 lbs, his coat is looking great, and he is so happy to be with his mom during the day, especially since he is still a little afraid of thunder and loud noises.

Lacey lost about 40 lbs, has a shiny coat and a plush new bed so she can nap near Mom all day.  The pair greets everyone that comes into the store;  ambassadors to our breed and to its seniors,  and  grateful for more than a second chance at life!

With sadness, we note that Rusty and Lacey have passed away.
