This
precocious little girl was in four homes by
the time she was 10-months old. She
was originally surrendered to a shelter in
central New Jersey because she was too
hyper. Twice she was adopted, only to
be returned to the shelter because her
energy level was just too high for her
adoptive families to deal with.
Volunteers at the shelter knew that this
little pup would be ruined unless she got
into the right home … immediately. So
they called rescue.
After
spending two weeks in a GRRI-NJ foster home,
Nikki was adopted. But guess what …
the next day we received a call to come get
her. So two days before Thanksgiving,
two of our volunteers went to retrieve her
with the intent of fostering her.
But it was love at first sight, and Nikki
went home to her forever home in Westchester
County, NY.
She was
greeted by her new family – four other Goldens and four cats. Her new parents
quickly learned she was not housebroken, and
all the rumors were true … the energy level
on this pup was incredible. Her favorite
game was to jump off the furniture onto the
backs of the other dogs. Or to chase the
cats throughout the house, barking her
little head off. When she got tired of that,
she loved to unroll the toilet tissue!
With lots
of work, Nikki got trained;
constant playing with the two younger Goldens in the family kept her energy level
under control, as did walks and trips to the
park. And eventually, even the
cats adjusted!
This
lovable little pup was a diamond in the
rough who needed a little bit of polishing,
some obedience training, house manners …
and lots of love.
