Leeshay's Pennsylvania puppy mill owner took her to a vet when she was pregnant and infested with maggots. Surgery was required, and the puppies, unfortunately, did not survive. Leeshay was spayed, and since she could no longer produce puppies, this owner signed her over to rescue.

It was a long recovery. She had never been socialized or spent time around other dogs. The love and care she received from her foster family allowed her to have a chance at a real life, but the first adoptive home that took her couldn't work out pack hierarchy issues with their other dog, and returned her after only three days.

Meanwhile, another senior rescue dog, Lady, made such an impression on her new owner's son and his wife that they made the decision to adopt Leeshay.

Just a short time later, Leeshay's new owner got choked up talking about her. This deserving dog was already sleeping in their bed and chasing a ball in the yard with the kids. Leeshay had finally found a family she could keep.

This mother/son adopter combo may be a first for GRRI-NJ. And it led to two sweet senior dogs  finding forever homes.
