May 2:  Jack was found by a GRRI-NJ volunteer in a shelter with a 106 fever, in a small cage without water or food, and dripping a green substance from every orifice, including the incision where he had been neutered.  He coughed so violently that his throat was too swollen and sore for him to vocalize.  Jack was scheduled to be put down by the visiting veterinarian in 2 days.

May 3, 7 AM:  The Ungers received a frantic call from the same GRRI-NJ volunteer with just one question:  Since you have no pets at home right now, would you CONSIDER fostering a very contagious critically ill 2-year old Golden while he's undergoing antibiotic treatment?

Answer:  YES!!

Happy Ending:  After 5 days on IV antibiotics to jump start his recuperation, Jack came to what immediately became his forever home with the Ungers on May 8th.  That 7 AM phone call was like winning the lottery!  Jack recovered from his kennel cough, pneumonia and double ear infections and is slowing adjusting to a cluster seizure disorder.  He is the most loving gentle spirit the Ungers have ever known.  To them, he's the Golden that gives ALL Goldens their awesome reputation.

Jack:  A lover, a leaner, a lucky dog!!

With sadness, we note that Jack has passed away.
