OK -- we admit it -- there is nothing
cuter than a golden retriever
puppy wearing a red ribbon underneath
the Christmas tree. However, that cute
little furball requires some assembly --
it takes months of training and years of
commitment to raise a dog. Before you
know it, that gift is 60 pounds of
energy with no manners or training!
Finn was one of these Christmas puppies
-- ignored after the holidays by a
family that lost interest and didn't
understand the care and commitment
necessary to raise a dog. GRRI-NJ got a
call about a puppy who was kept on a
3-foot chain in a dark, filthy,
windowless garage. Our volunteers who
did the original evaluation found a
10-month old puppy who weighed only 35
pounds, covered with feces and urine.
You could see every bone in his body.
It was summer and in the 80-90s, but he
had no water or food.
Despite never knowing affection and
care, Finn possessed that loving spirit
that our Goldens are known for. Finn's
foster mom described him as the most
loving dog ever, right from the start.
She cleaned him up, healed the scabs
around his neck from the chain, and
taught Finn the rules of housebreaking.
It didn't take long before she
realized Finn was already in his forever
home.
Finn grew into a handsome and
well-behaved boy. His forever family
says he is the biggest mush, and loves
to be rocked in their arms like a baby.
You can meet Finn at the GRRI-NJ events
where he really draws in the crowd!
