He was found wandering the streets and
placed in a shelter in Northern New Jersey. It was very
obvious there was "something medically wrong" with him but
the shelter workers weren't quite sure what it was. They
just knew that he couldn't be adopted to any family that
came in and fell for that adorable little face.
Golden Re-Triever Rescue was asked to
take him and find him a good home. The first thing we did
was put him into a foster home and have him medically
evaluated. X-rays revealed that he recently had broken his
leg; someone had arranged to have the leg set, but not his
broken pelvis! The pelvis healed, but not properly. This
resulted in him walking with a lopsided gait. When he lays
on the floor, the front part of him goes in one direction,
and the back end in another
sort of like a derailed
train! Our rescue vet recommended that no additional surgery
be performed on this sweet boy. He was compensating
beautifully, and it was felt that major surgery was not in
his best interest.
So then it was time to find a new forever
home for him
one without young children that could be
too rough with him, and one without a lot of stairs. And we
found that family -- complete with two Golden sisters, one of whom was
adopted from rescue the previous year, and two human siblings.
Dakota had a very rough start in life, but
he's found a forever home with a family who showers him with love
and attention.
