"Destructive, hyper, mouthy, and
bouncing-off-the-walls" was how this 11-month old dog was
described when we first brought her into our rescue program.
You see, Daisy was left alone most of the time and just got
too excited when she was around people. But she had a lot of
potential if she could just find the right
home
After two weeks in doggie boot camp, and
another week in a foster home learning how to be social in a
family environment, "Crazy Daisy", as we affectionately
called her, was adopted by the Glazer family. True dog
people, the Glazers were looking for a younger Golden to
help perk up their 11-yr old Golden, Dusty, who was
suffering from a fast growing form of lymphoma. Both the
Glazers and their vet felt now was the time to bring another
dog into the house since Dusty was still strong enough to
play.
Daisy was adopted
by Stephanie, Doug, Jeff, Jess, and Dusty in late October 1999. She quickly
learned who was the boss in that house. Trailing a lead wherever she
went, she quickly learned that counter-surfing, chewing, jumping and
hyper behavior would not be tolerated in her new home. Instead, the
Glazers re-directed all her energy to learning how to play fetch, and
play without leaving black and blue marks!
Unfortunately, she never got to
fully bond with
Dusty, who succumbed to the cancer right before Hanukkah that year.
But
Daisy was there to help ease the pain of losing a beloved
family pet, and her doggie antics are always keeping this family
entertained! As Stephanie wrote to GRRI-NJ a month after Daisy was
adopted, "She's a Glazer now and you're not getting her back".
Just the words we like to hear!
