He was filthy, matted and severely
underweight when GRRI-NJ rescued this 9-year-old boy from a kill
shelter in Newark, NJ. One of his eyes was badly infected.
His teeth are worn from chewing on rocks, and we believe he
was starved which accounted for his malnourished condition.
Then he was thrown away like a piece of trash. It is beyond
our understanding how anyone could treat a pet this way.
But despite all the long-term neglect,
this gentle senior never lost that wonderful Golden
personality that we all love. Finding the perfect home for
him became our primary focus.
Sometimes, when
foster homes are unavailable, GRRI-NJ finds it necessary to
board one of our rescue dogs in a kennel. That was the case
with Chief. But guess what. One of the kennel workers fell
in love with him and asked if she could adopt him. She had
formed a special bond with him and just had to have him. It
was a perfect match.
Once he found that
perfect person to care for him, Chief gained weight, his coat
grew back, and he started to learn what a happy life meant.
No longer tied
in a backyard without shelter, no longer starved for food or affection,
no longer abandoned without a home, Chief is now forever home, and
forever loved.
