From the first day Carli arrived home, the three of us felt like a
family immediately
Carli curiously sniffed around the house, found her “comfort spot” on
the carpet and got to know the neighborhood. She even found her
obedience book which she chewed up rather quickly!! Chasing her tail,
playing tug-of-war with her towel was a regular routine.
Carli delighted in seeing us all together at home in the evenings;
eating her ice cubes, playing with her toys and getting lots of hugs and
kisses! We loved looking at Carli’s precious face at the window door,
her watching the squirrels and enjoying the snow!
Fortunately, we were able to bring Carli to the beach in her later
years. Despite a spine disease which weakened her rear legs, Carli
pursued swimming in the bay, chasing the ducks and just relaxing in the
sand. However, no matter what we did together, Carli made sure we were
always in her sight! She loved our companionship but our love for Carli
was & is like no other. We miss her greeting at the door, wagging her
tail excitedly, snuggling up to us (especially when food was around!)
and our naps together.
Carli’s last several months were bittersweet and challenging. In
addition to her troubled legs, Carli developed cancer under her chin/jaw
area. But at age 13, Carli was still determined to enjoy life. We
spent a lot of time at the beach and she truly loved her “deck views”
and lounging by the pool. Carli was determined, patient, ever so sweet
and gave so much love. She was “family”, NOT just a pet. We truly
believe she had human senses and qualities. Life is not the same; Carli
will be loved by us forever in our hearts. We were truly blessed to
have Carli 13 ½ years and will cherish the love she gave to us daily
with beautiful memories.
