Woody was a delightful 6-year-old male Golden who loved to play fetch and who did the circle dance when ever a leash appeared.

Unfortunately, when he entered GRRI-NJ, his play time was severely limited.  In April 2004,  he was out running around one rainy day in his backyard when he tore a ligament in his left hind leg.  The vet recommended ACL surgery, but financial constraints prevented his family from having it done.

As time went by, his leg grew worse.  He couldn't put any weight on it, had trouble steadying himself, and had difficulty getting up after lying down.

Realizing they owed him better care than they could afford, the owners called GRRI-NJ and asked if we could take him into our program.

After a behavioral evaluation, GRRI-NJ accepted Woody and placed him in a great GRRI-NJ foster home with no stairs, other dogs to play with and kids to shower him with love.

GRRI-NJ also took Woody to the vet, and in addition to evaluating his torn ACL, he also began treatment for a skin infection, including getting his belly shaved, oral antibiotics, and special medicated baths.

Once the skin infection had cleared, Woody was ready for surgery, which took place Thursday September 9, 2004.

Woody's foster Mom, Stefanie, described Woody as a gentle soul of a dog with a soft beautiful red coat, who practically howled when someone arrived at the door,  who greeted everyone with a smile and a tail wag, who loved her daughter's belly rubs, cheddar rice cakes, car rides, and sitting at her husbands feet as he was on the computer in the evenings.

Woody's recovery took about a month.  Then in early November, the day Woody had been waiting for arrived -- he was adopted!! Woody now has a loving forever family to call his own!

Many thanks to his GRRI-NJ foster family, the O'Donnells for all the wonderful care they gave Woody ... and to prior donors to the Joann Smith Memorial Fund for making Woody's surgery possible!
